Brandberg Amethysts take their name from the Brandberg Mountain in the Namibian Desert. The word Brandberg is Afrikaans for burning mountain which describes the bright colour when the setting sun falls on the very ancient rock.

The mountain is known as Omukuruvaro to some of the indigenous peoples and it means Mountain of the Gods. It is considered a very sacred place by many and there are many ancient rock paintings.

Because of the sacredness of this area, mining on the mountain is illegal, and so the crystals that come to us are actually from the nearby Goboboseb Mountains.

The Brandberg area produces exceptionally beautiful crystals of Clear Quartz, Smoky Quartz and Amethyst - sometimes with all three in one piece in amazing patterns. Phantoms are found and occasionally enhydros and some crystals have tiny flecks of silver or red Hematite.

My first Brandberg came to me about 25 years ago. I'd never seen one before and it was very expensive, but so beautiful that I had to have it. In addition to the general properties of Amethyst, to me, these crystals have a very special, unique, high frequency energy. I think they are crystals that call to us and inspire us to make a very strong personal connection. We can work with them in meditation and for conscious spiritual growth and expansion.
